Budget ZTE 5-inch smartphone pictures leak

Images have leaked showing ZTE’s affordable 5-inch phablet smartphone with quad-core power

ZTE was said to be working on an affordable 5-inch ‘phablet’ smartphone with a quad-core processor, but now pictures have emerged to support the claims.

Currently codenamed the ZTE U956 MT6589 (expect that mouthful to change to something a bit punchier by launch) the handset sports a 1280×720 pixel resolution and a MediaTek MT6589 quad-core processor chip.

It’s not clear if this phone will appear outside China, but chances are good. The price is alleged to be around $240, which places it somewhere in the region of ?150 in UK money.

The photos come courtesy GizChina and appear to be the real deal, complete with official looking stickers, barcodes and other bits and bobs plastered on the back.

It’s looking like a fairly typical HTC-style slab with rounded corners and a relatively minimalist back panel. We can also see an 8-megapixel camera.

A possible candidate for Mobile World Congress? We think so. Expect to see more about this low-cost beast in February.

It’s also not the only 5-inch device ZTE is working on either as it’s also developing the 5.7-inch P945.
